Our Pool and Spa Inspection Process

At Grampians Pool and Spa Inspections, we aim to make the pool and spa barrier inspection process as simple and straightforward as possible.

Whether you’re preparing for your first inspection, unsure about a particular part of your barrier, or simply want some guidance before getting started, we’re here to help.

1. Register Your Pool or Spa
Before an inspection can take place, your pool or spa needs to be registered with the relevant local council. If you’re unsure whether your pool or spa is registered, contact your local council to confirm its registration status.

2. Check Your Council Due Date
Once your pool or spa is registered, Council will send you a letter outlining the due date by which your pool or spa must be inspected. Your Council letter will also specify the Australian Standard that applies to your pool or spa barrier. You will need to arrange an inspection and obtain a Certificate of Barrier Compliance within the required timeframe.

3. Do a Self-Assessment

The Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) provides three pool and spa barrier self-assessment checklists to help owners check their safety barrier before an inspection.

The appropriate checklist depends on when your pool or spa was installed.

We encourage you to use the relevant checklist as an opportunity to carry out your own pre-inspection check and identify any areas you may have questions or concerns about.

Please remember that the self-assessment checklist is a guide only and does not replace a formal inspection or guarantee compliance.

Considering Making Changes?

If you identify an issue or are considering making changes to your pool or spa barrier, we recommend contacting us before making any major alterations.

This can help you understand what may be required before you undertake potentially costly changes or repairs.

4. Contact Us

When you’re ready to arrange your inspection, getting in touch is easy.

You can contact Grampians Pool Inspections by:

We’ll discuss your requirements, answer any questions you may have and arrange a suitable inspection time.

5. Need Some Guidance Before Your Inspection?

If you have particular concerns about your pool or spa barrier, we also offer a 15–20 minute pre-inspection video consultation for $70.00.

This gives you the opportunity to show us areas of concern and discuss possible options before making changes to your barrier.

A video consultation can be useful if you’re unsure about a gate, fence, window, door or another part of your barrier and would like some guidance before your formal inspection.

Please note: The video consultation is intended as general guidance only and is not a formal inspection. We cannot guarantee that all non-compliant items will be identified during a video consultation.

6. Your Inspection is Scheduled

Once your inspection is booked, we’ll arrange a suitable date and time to attend the property.

The owner does not need to be present during the inspection. However, we will need access inside the property if any windows or doors form part of the pool or spa barrier.

Most inspections take approximately 15–30 minutes, depending on the size, layout and complexity of the pool or spa area.

7. We Inspect Your Barrier

We’ll inspect your pool or spa barrier against the Australian Standard specified on your Council registration letter.

We’ll identify and clearly outline any areas that do not comply with the applicable requirements.

Where non-compliance is identified, we’ll provide practical options and advice to help you understand how the issues can be resolved.

If rectification work is required, you have 60 days to address the identified issues and rebook your inspection.

8. Reinspection

Once the required rectification work has been completed, you can arrange a reinspection.

We’ll return to check that the previously identified issues have been addressed and that the barrier complies with the applicable requirements.

Reinspection fees apply and are payable when the reinspection is booked.

9. Certificate of Barrier Compliance

Once the pool or spa barrier has been inspected and confirmed as compliant, we will issue a Form 23 – Certificate of Barrier Compliance.

The owner is then responsible for submitting the certificate to the relevant Council within 30 days.

This completes the inspection process and provides Council with the required documentation confirming that the pool or spa barrier has been assessed for compliance.

We hope to see you again in four years

Once your pool or spa barrier has passed its inspection, we hope to see you again when your next inspection is due in four years’ time.

As a returning customer, discounts may apply where there have been no changes to your pool or spa barrier since your previous inspection.

Thank you for choosing Grampians Pool and Spa Inspections. We look forward to helping you keep your pool or spa barrier safe and compliant.
